Destiny is a Fickle…
I’m seriously having trouble wrapping my mind around this latest episode. As always, SPOILERS AND possible SPOILER THEORIES below. So don’t read on if you haven’t seen the latest episode yet!
Ben was right. Destiny is definitely a fickle bitch (hey - he said it, not me!) Everything is going your way and then BOOM! It all falls apart. Ben’s a little bitter, but who can blame him?

Claire - What the Heck?!

Did anyone else think Claire was completely stoned? I think she is a ghost. When Sawyer rescued Claire, she was already dead. This is why she’s OK with leaving Aaron behind and why she’s acting so weird. (Note: JOpinionated first came up with this awesome theory about Claire, and I totally agree with it. J writes about Lost too. Check out the blog here for some great commentary and theories.)
However… There could be something else causing Claire’s stoned-ness (a new word!) This is how some of the Others acted too. Like Cindy, the stewardess? Does this mean the people on the “list” were really dead and that’s why Jacob wanted them?
Christian
Daddy can’t leave his kids alone, even when he’s dead!

Was Christian resurrected or are we seeing his ghost? Is the Island some “nexus” between this life and the next? Perhaps the electromagnetism caused a space/time rift that created a nexus. Hmm…
Locke

Did anyone else watch the hospital scene and think that Richard is his biological father? It would explain soooo much. Remember, Locke’s mom was dating someone “twice her age” and Locke’s grandmother acted like she recognized Richard. She also had Locke adopted. This could explain Locke’s powers.
Locke’s father - the one that we’ve seen all along - might not really be his father. Maybe he just conned Locke to get his kidney.
(Don’t even get me started on the parallels between Locke drawing Smokey as a young boy and Starbuck drawing the cloud as a young girl on Battlestar. I think both shows are about time loops.)
Richard

Ageless Richard… He works for Mittelos Bioscience, the same company that recruited Juliet. It’s a front for the Island Natives & Ben. I like to think of Mittelos as Dharma’s Nemesis (note: Mittelos is an anagram for Lost Time.)
Move the Island…
How the heck will someone do THAT?! Do you think they mean move the Island’s location or move the Island in time? This has to be why Jack, Widmore, and Ben can’t find the Island in the future - it’s not in the same place. But why does the Island want the Oceanic 6 back?
A Game of Chess…
There’s a battle for the Island and the opponents are Mittelos vs. Dharma. (Luckily this isn’t a real chess game because I lose those. Just ask all the people I’m playing on Facebook…)
Mittelos - Featuring Ben, the Others, Jacob’s List, and Richard (one of the Natives). Since the Natives predated Dharma, they are probably from the Black Rock.
Dharma - Featuring Charles Widmore, who runs Dharma now (created by Alvar Hanso), the freighter folks, Keamy, and Abaddon. Random note: Magnus Hanso was captain of the Black Rock. His descendant, Alvar Hanso, started Dharma.
Martin Keamy
Last but not least, the most evil man on Lost, Keamy. Cold, heartless, and blood-thirsty. As my friend Kelly pointed out, his name is rather appropo. And no, if you don’t know me personally, you won’t understand, so don’t even try.
Btw, can anyone tell me WHY Smokey didn’t kill Keamy?
That’s it for now. Mostly a stream-of-consciousness post about Lost. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Man, what an amazing episode. I actually gasped and said, “whoa” out loud several different times last night. I loved reading yours and J’s theories. It gives me more to think about, but I have a hunch that nobody’s ever going to have it quite right until the very end.
Last night was just another example of how the creators are so brilliant at letting you feel like you’re getting close to the answers, then BAM! Adding another several layers of mystery and weirdness to it. It’s terrific.
Great post — thanks!

I’m thinking Anthony Cooper is indeed Locke’s father, with Emily (Swoosie Kurtz in the future) because why else would he pick Locke, a random guy at that point, to donate his kidney? And how would he know who Emily was?
I’m wondering if Alpert might not be Locke’s grandfather, the mother of Emily. Which might be why Emily’s mom gave him such a look when spying him at the window of the nursery.
I said in another blog I think the Black Rock ship is a big key to the players, and I’m thinking Alpert and Widmore were crew on the ship, and Magnus Hanson was the captain. Possibly Abbadon was one of the slave captives?? And that the island made them immortal to an extent they’ve survived centuries after the shipwreck. Magnus eventually changed his name to Alvar and worked with Widmore and Abbadon to create Dharma. Alpert rebelled and with the help of others started a resistance (who else could it be…Paik? Maybe even Christian Shepherd? Or Jacob himself, as a corporeal being? I’m thinking the larger group of “chess players” are very old and have been battling for a very long time and the Losties are pawns in the game.
The wild card is the island itself. Is Smokey a manifestation of the island, or a manufactured entity? Why won’t or can’t it let people die?

I definitely think there are two groups, Mittlelos & Widmore, for sure.
Actually, I missed the flashbacks. For most of the 815ers, there isn’t much left to see about their past. Locke, however, seems to have plenty of stuff left to find out about.
I think you are right Barry…the Island is running things.

I do think that Claire is dead and was a ghost in the Cabin just as Christian is presumably. I have trouble with the theory that she died in the explosion though, because she was carrying her baby during the trek through the jungle. But on Lost, I’d believe it.
I definitely think that Cooper was Locke’s father because of the kidney match but hadn’t thought of Richard being a possible grandfather. Interesting.
I wrote a blog post of last nights episode focusing more on how a great deal of it can be explained by time travel. It is at http://connectwithyourteens.blogspot.com/2008/05/crazy-lost-episode-and-some-good-lost.html
It also mentions news of extra episodes during the next 2 years.

I’m agreeing with you that Claire could be dead. And that Richard could be Locke’s dad. But I’m not sure on either front. Keamy wasn’t killed by Smokey because he’s a good bad guy, and the producers want him around more. And, if you read my post about why Australia is key to the game I think that there is a way to hide the island, from those hidden land bridges that once existed. I just loved last night’s show.

My theory seems to be holding more and more water, check my comments.. I said it before and I will say it again.. pergatory!

This episode hurt my brain… it was almost too much, but in a most fantastic way.
I don’t think Claire died in the explosion, but died in the night from injuries or something due to the fact she was carrying around aaron all day.
Interesting thoughts about Locke’s dad….
I am also thinking “moving the island” also has something to do with time not physically moving it.
What a fantastic episode.. love your post Steph!

Well, as plates in the earth tend to move with time so does Geography. So time would have a direct impact on it’s latitude / Longitude position.
