Wow wow wow wow wow!

Posted in JJ Abrams, Lost, science fiction, scifi on May 30, 2008 by Dube

What an amazing two hours for the Lost finale! I’m just going to share a few quick thoughts here and I’ll write something more in-depth later (so stay tuned!) As usual, if you haven’t watched it yet, don’t read anymore.

SPOILER ALERT! :-)

Now we know why only the Oceanic Six were saved. Did anyone else want to cry when the freighter exploded and Sun was crying? The acting was amazing in that scene. I could just feel how painful that would be. I can’t imagine that happening to me!

It was interesting to see Sun’s situation contrasted with Desmond’s. Sun is separated from her true love and Desmond is reunited. It’s very illustrative of life itself. We all have different paths to follow, different times of joy and sorrow. Sometimes our paths converge and we struggle with the same things, and sometimes our paths are mirror opposites. It’s why you should never be jealous of someone else. There is no telling when life could change and you will be the “blessed” one while the other person will have the struggles.

Back to Lost… Sawyer has totally trumped Jack in the coolness department. Whining baby Jack was so insistent on NOT going back to the Island that Sawyer had to sacrifice himself. Nice Jack, real nice. And years later Jack abandons Aaron? Why?! I don’t care what was going on, there is no excuse to abandon a little kid. This proves the old adage: Never get involved with a doctor. They’ll only become really self-obsessed and crazy in the end! (Or maybe I just like blondes.)

And what did you think of Ben moving that “wheel” to move the Island? Did anyone else catch that he was moving the Island *forward* in time by 3 years? Immediately after that scene, Ben showed up in the desert three years in the future. So we know that moving the Island isn’t by location but by time.

And Locke is Jeremy Benthame? He probably changed his name to signify his new role and new life as leader of the Island. Who killed him and why? And why did Locke think it was so important for all six to come back that he visited them each individually?

 I'm a doctor. Whine whine!

In the last scene, Ben actually looked really cool. It is the only time in the history of Lost that Ben was better looking than scruffy Jack. Could never happen with Sawyer though. ;-)

OK, now here is my big question for my readers. It’s really important, so read closely…

Who is the “cooler” character? Jack, Sawyer, or Ben? Hmm…

Blog Questions

Posted in Uncategorized on May 27, 2008 by Dube

GirlintheGhetto just tagged me for what is called a “meme whore blog.” Despite the name (lol), it just means that I answer a series of questions on my blog that GirlintheGhetto answered on hers! So here we go:

Favorite person (outside family)?
I don’t think I can pick a specific person. There are a number of people who have been there during good & bad times. (My friend Rachel is one of them and I know she reads this every day. LOL. Hi Rachel!)

Favorite food?
My mom’s white coconut cake with cream cheese icing (it’s kind of like a homemade Italian wedding cake, only even better!)

Quirks about you?
I love watching scifi and I’m addicted to Dr Pepper. :)

How would the person who loves you most describe you in ten words or less? (Ask them)
Oh gosh, I don’t know!

Any regrets in life?
No regrets per se, as everything that has happened in my life has certainly been guided by God’s hand (although, to be honest, most of the time I don’t like it!) The only true regret is missing a mentor’s funeral last year. I missed it to do something for someone else who did not deserve that honor.

Favorite Charity/Cause?
I love giving away clothing and electronics to Goodwill. It’s nice knowing that someone else might be really excited about something I gave away.

Favorite Blog recently?
I really like reading all my friends’ blogs (see my blogroll). Kelly recently started one and it’s been quite fun.

Something you can’t get enough of?
Battlestar Galactica. I’m rewatching the series right now. It’s inspiring me for the scifi script I’m writing. :)

Worst job you’ve ever had?
Haha! I so cannot write about that on the Internet. :-P

What job would you pay NOT to have?
Press agent for Hillary Clinton

If you could be a fly on the wall, where?
I can’t write about that one either. :-)

Favorite Bible verse right now?
This is tough because so many of them are great! But I really like this one: Matthew 6:7 “When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered only by repeating their words again and again.”

The principle can be applied to all aspects of life. Don’t go babbling on about your faith – live it. If you can’t live it, your words are worth nothing.

Guilty Pleasure?
Pumpkin smoothies. Actually, they are low fat and low calorie. But I love them so much that I eat them sometimes instead of meals. :)

Got any confessions? Please, my life is an open book.

If you HAD to spend $1,000 on YOURSELF, how would you spend it?
Hmm… Manicure & pedicure with some really fun, shiny nail polish color. And maybe a new pair of sparkly flipflops. :)

Favorite thing about your house?
I’ll tell you that after I’ve moved!

Least favorite thing about your house?
Ditto.

One thing you are bad at?
Nothing. ha!

One thing you’re good at?
Cooking and entertaining. One of my favorite dishes to cook is a three-cheese stuffed chicken with white wine marinara sauce. It’s an off-diet meal, lol, but soooo good.

If you could change something about your circumstances, what would it be?
More things I can’t write about. But let’s just say I’m currently doing it. :-)

Who would you like to meet someday?
Nathan Fillion, star of Serenity.

Who is your real life hero?
I have a specific answer for this, but it would be getting too personal for my blog. This blog is meant to be humorous, sarcastic, with a few serious posts here & there, but nothing deep about me personally.

What is the hardest part of your job?
Getting out there & meeting new clients. I like forming relationships and connections, but I hate the idea of accidentally sounding like a used car salesman.

When are you most relaxed? When I’m asleep? Is this a trick question?

What stresses you out? Ha! I can’t get into that here either. But some of you reading this know. ;-)

What can you not live without? Laughter, family, friends, my faith

Why do you blog? Because it’s fun! I’m also working on a book, and blogging is good practice.

Really sad news :-(

So, I just visited Adam Riggins’ blog and found out that Steven Curtis Chapman’s five-year-old daughter was killed yesterday evening. :( For the full story on AP, check here.

Apparently his daughter was hit in the driveway of their home by his teenage son, driving an SUV. It’s a horrible tragedy and the family definitely needs all our prayers. I can’t even imagine what they are going through right now – or what the son is having to deal with right now. Chapman’s website also includes information, along with a page dedicated to his daughter Maria.

Steven Curtis Chapman has always been one of my favorite singers and one of the very few that had an impact on me. I even got to meet him once and help out at one of his concerts. It was quite an amazing experience, to say the least. If you’ve never heard any of his songs, I’m including my favorite one in a YouTube video below. (If you don’t recognize the pictures in the video, they are about Jim Elliot, who died as a missionary when he was killed by a tribe he was trying to help.)

Let’s all keep the Chapmans in our prayers. :(

Lost Videos

Posted in JJ Abrams, Lost, science fiction, scifi on May 22, 2008 by Dube

Whenever I have a little free time, I like to visit the LostVideo website. Some people on there are really talented and post some pretty interesting videos that combine music with Lost. I found one recently by a user named “benlinusisagoodguy” (I wonder if he/she is biased! lol). I really like this one and it uses one of my favorite songs. Check it out if you have time.

WARNING – this video has MAJOR spoilers. DO NOT watch if you’re not currently completely caught up on Lost.

Nigerian scams reach a new low: eHarmony

Posted in technology with tags on May 19, 2008 by Dube

Nigeria strikes again. Seriously, when are they going to realize that we’re onto them? But now they’ve reached a new low. An alert reader notified me of this new development (the name has been removed):

Hmm… If he’s going to try to scam a dating site, can’t he at least come up with a decent cover? An occupation of “still trying to get a good job” is not exactly appealing unless you’re one of those “I can change him! I can change him!” type of women. Oh wait, sorry. His job title is: “Still trying to get ba good job.”

I love how his ethnicity is listed as African American, but his picture is this:

This just screams “Hey! I’m from a catalogue! I’m FAKE!!!!”

I really would like to find the source of this photo. Has anyone seen this picture? Maybe on a frame you bought at Target? If so, please tell me.

I’d love to write a follow up.

:-P

Lovin’ Lost!

As usual, spoilers are below. Don’t read on if you haven’t seen the latest episode!

There really weren’t any “new mysteries” added or new solutions offered. But I really loved seeing the homecoming for the Oceanic Six. I’m glad it wasn’t like Star Trek Voyager, where the entire series is set around a homecoming that no one ever sees. (I’m still bitter about that show’s finale.)

By the way, did anyone else catch that the lady who coordinated the Oceanic Six played a HUGE role in Battlestar Galactica? Don’t say what the role was, because people read this blog who aren’t caught up yet!

Here are my questions. Please share any ideas you have about them!

1. Much of the episode centered around the Orchid. Remember the Orchid video from last summer? Here it is if you want to see it again:

OK, exactly how does this video tie in with moving the Island? Are they going to teleport the entire Island somewhere? But if they do that, will there be a duplicate copy like we see with the rabbits?

2. Alpert’s BACK! I’m so excited. He and the “others” still dress in that crazy garb though. Is everyone in his little group immortal just like he is? I bet they all came from the Black Rock.

3. How on earth do the Six get back together? Kate, Sayid, and her baby have been caught and are probably being led back to the Temple. Jack is at the helicopter. Hurley is with Locke. Sun is on the freighter. How are all these paths going to intersect?

4. Why the huge coverup story? I can only think that they’re doing it out of coercion. For some reason, if they tell anyone the truth, their buddies will be killed. But does this also mean that their buddies can never return?

5. How is Ben getting out of THIS mess? We know he survives, but he sure seems outnumbered. Does he have another Smokey up his sleeve?

6. Did anyone else notice how much Jack’s mom looks like an older version of Kate?

CREEPY. Dr. Jack has more issues than I thought.

7. And finally… Do you think Jin died or was simply left behind? I believe Sun paused before answering because she wanted to say “Jin’s alive! Go find him!” Saying the love of your life is dead – even if it’s not true – has to be heart-wrenching.

—-

Well, these are all my main questions. I loved the part where Jack learned about Claire. I was cheering when Sun finally stood up to her dad. And I felt really bad for Kate when they first got off the plane. If the Island is moved, how will they ever get back?

Destiny is a Fickle…

Posted in JJ Abrams, Lost, science fiction, scifi on May 9, 2008 by Dube

I’m seriously having trouble wrapping my mind around this latest episode. As always, SPOILERS AND possible SPOILER THEORIES below. So don’t read on if you haven’t seen the latest episode yet!

Ben was right. Destiny is definitely a fickle bi*** (hey – he said it, not me!) Everything is going your way and then BOOM! It all falls apart. Ben’s a little bitter, but who can blame him?

Claire – What the Heck?!

Did anyone else think Claire was completely stoned? I think she is a ghost. When Sawyer rescued Claire, she was already dead. This is why she’s OK with leaving Aaron behind and why she’s acting so weird. (Note: JOpinionated first came up with this awesome theory about Claire, and I totally agree with it. J writes about Lost too. Check out the blog here for some great commentary and theories.)

However… There could be something else causing Claire’s stoned-ness (a new word!) This is how some of the Others acted too. Like Cindy, the stewardess? Does this mean the people on the “list” were really dead and that’s why Jacob wanted them?

Christian

Daddy can’t leave his kids alone, even when he’s dead!

Was Christian resurrected or are we seeing his ghost? Is the Island some “nexus” between this life and the next? Perhaps the electromagnetism caused a space/time rift that created a nexus. Hmm…

Locke

Did anyone else watch the hospital scene and think that Richard is his biological father? It would explain soooo much. Remember, Locke’s mom was dating someone “twice her age” and Locke’s grandmother acted like she recognized Richard. She also had Locke adopted. This could explain Locke’s powers.

Locke’s father – the one that we’ve seen all along – might not really be his father. Maybe he just conned Locke to get his kidney.

(Don’t even get me started on the parallels between Locke drawing Smokey as a young boy and Starbuck drawing the cloud as a young girl on Battlestar. I think both shows are about time loops.)

Richard

Ageless Richard… He works for Mittelos Bioscience, the same company that recruited Juliet. It’s a front for the Island Natives & Ben. I like to think of Mittelos as Dharma’s Nemesis (note: Mittelos is an anagram for Lost Time.)

Move the Island…

How the heck will someone do THAT?! Do you think they mean move the Island’s location or move the Island in time? This has to be why Jack, Widmore, and Ben can’t find the Island in the future - it’s not in the same place. But why does the Island want the Oceanic 6 back?

A Game of Chess…

There’s a battle for the Island and the opponents are Mittelos vs. Dharma. (Luckily this isn’t a real chess game because I lose those. Just ask all the people I’m playing on Facebook…)

Mittelos - Featuring Ben, the Others, Jacob’s List, and Richard (one of the Natives). Since the Natives predated Dharma, they are probably from the Black Rock.

Dharma – Featuring Charles Widmore, who runs Dharma now (created by Alvar Hanso), the freighter folks, Keamy, and Abaddon.  Random note: Magnus Hanso was captain of the Black Rock. His descendant, Alvar Hanso, started Dharma.

Martin Keamy

Last but not least, the most evil man on Lost, Keamy. Cold, heartless, and blood-thirsty. As my friend Kelly pointed out, his name is rather appropo. And no, if you don’t know me personally, you won’t understand, so don’t even try. :-) Btw, can anyone tell me WHY Smokey didn’t kill Keamy?

That’s it for now. Mostly a stream-of-consciousness post about Lost. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Lost: I See Dead People!

Another incredible episode!! As always, don’t read on if you haven’t seen the latest Lost epi. Spoilers below!

Amazing! Just amazing! Where do I even begin?

Well, we finally know what started Jack’s downfall and his addiction to painkillers. If I saw a dead person, I’d react the same way! Creepy!

GHOSTS

Question: Are the hallucinations just that, hallucinations caused by an illness from the island? Or are the hallucinations actual visits from some entity (such as Smoky)?

Since Miles can communicate with dead people, of course he could see Shepherd with Claire. It’s a clue that they are actual entities.

Question 2: Are these “entities” different aspects of one entity (such as Smoky)? Or are they separate entities (i.e. ghosts)?

Question 3: In my last Lost post, we talked about the possibility that Smoky is made of nanites. If that’s the case, could the “ghosts” be made of nanites also? I’m leaning against this one, since Losties see them in the real world too. How would the nanites get there?

Which brings me to a big question:

Could any of our Losties actually be one of the entities and not a real person? I bet so! But who?

Jack and Kate

So, they do end up together! I can’t say that I’m too surprised. Their relationship does teach us one important lesson: never ever lie. The moment you start hiding something is the moment the relationship is over! And being as Jack is a doctor, the relationship was bound to end in a huge fireball of emotional debris anyway.

Both are equally to blame for the demise. Jack is to blame for hiding his hallucinations and turning to alcohol and narcotics rather than Kate. (Typical doctor, self-prescribing and thinking he knows best!) Kate, however, shares equal blame. She should not be hiding anything from Jack. She should have been honest with him from the beginning and Jack would not have gotten so upset. By hiding it, she was throwing red flags everywhere.

Have you ever gotten the “just trust me” speech from a loved one? It reeks. And it’s a total cop-out from the person saying it. Just be honest!

By the way, Girl from the Ghetto’s blog has INCREDIBLE information about what Kate was doing for Sawyer and why. I totally missed it! Check out what she wrote here.

Claire

Wow!!! Now we know why Claire didn’t get off the island. But what exactly happened with her and the Shepherd ghost? Does this mean Jacob views Claire as one of the “good” people and took her? But if that’s the case, why not take Aaron too?

I love how Sawyer is so protective of Claire. It’s sweet and it’s far more “noble” than what he had with Kate. Now we know why Sawyer didn’t leave the island. He couldn’t abandon Claire, knowing she was somewhere on the island. What a guy!

So… What do you think happened to Claire?

I See Dead People!

Who was that guy in the preview? I think he’s Radzinski, the guy that Desmond’s hatch partner, Kelvin, killed. He’s wearing the same jumpsuit that Desmond wore and he’s been dead for 12 years, which fits the timeline.

He’s been dead! How wild is that? I hope this means we’ll see Danielle again (but not Nikki or Paulo *shudder*). This probably means that Richard Alpert, the guy who never ages, is also dead. In fact, all the “natives” that the Dharma people defended themselves against (when Ben was a boy) are probably also dead.

It’s so fascinating. I can’t wait until next week! If you have ideas on any of this, please let me know!

:)
